I came across this recipe one day on simplyrecipes.com when I was trying to spruce up our spaghetti sauce recipe. It’s not as “saucy” as a regular spaghetti recipe, and so we’ve lovingly named it “Fancy Spaghetti,” that, and we generally use a different type of noodle other than spaghetti noodles. Although it would work just great with regular noodles as well! There are so many possibilities with this recipe to make it just the way you want it. It has been a family favorite ever since.
- 1 pound of pasta (of your choice)
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt, garlic powder, onion powder
- 1 can of tomato sauce (14.5 oz)
- 1 can of petite diced tomatoes (14.5 oz-I like the one with roasted garlic and onion)*
- 2 Tbs sugar
- 1 Tbs dried parsley
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
- salt and pepper to taste
- Heat to boiling a large pot of water. Add pasta, 1 Tbsp Olive Oil and 1 tsp salt. Cook according to package directions. Drain water when finished.
- Brown hamburger in a large sauce pan. As it is cooking sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, and onion powder (you only need to do this once).
- Once hamburger is fully cooked, add remaining ingredients (tomato sauce, petite diced tomatoes, sugar, parsley, Italian seasoning, basil, thyme, and salt and pepper) and stir.
- Let meat sauce simmer on medium-low for approximately 10 minutes.
- Serve meat sauce over cooked pasta, Serve immediately.
- *If you don't have petite diced tomatoes, you can use regular diced or just another can of tomato sauce. Also, if you use plain petite diced tomatoes but would like to get the flavor of the roasted garlic and onion add an additional 1 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp parsley to the meat sauce. These are approximate measurements, so feel free to taste the sauce and change it according to your preference.
