Growing up I was never much of a bread person, unless it was sweet bread, then I could eat an innumerable amount of bread. The nice thing with sweet breads is there are so many varieties that you can make. This one is has a nice warm flavor to it. Almost like you’re drinking warm apple cider, of course, adding the frosting on top makes it feel more like a dessert.
This bread would be great for breakfast, a snack, or after dinner dessert. It’s super easy to make and can satisfy hungry tummies in a jiffy! My husband said his favorite way to eat it is with the frosting because it almost makes it taste like cake. So whatever your making it for I’m sure it will work out great! You can also use sprouted whole wheat flour instead of plain white flour which helps add extra nutrients! Who wouldn’t love that?!
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup applesauce
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup plain kefir, yogurt or sour cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- pinch of salt
- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp butter, softened
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2-2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-4 Tbsp milk, cream or kefir (depending on how thick or thin you'd like it)
- Mix all ingredients for bread together and put in greased 9x5 loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes.
- Mix ingredients for frosting, cover and set aside.
- Once bread is cooled spread frosting over top.
- Cut and serve.
