I love love love Rice Krispie Treats, especially when they are soft and chewy! I used to watch my mom make this recipe growing up. Always the butter lover in our family, she would almost without thinking toss in a full stick of butter instead of the 3 Tbsp required by the recipe. I didn’t understand at the time that that is part of the magic of making these Rice Krispie Treats as aMaZiNg as they are! With only 3 ingredients, this recipe is super easy and incredibly delicious!
- 1/2 cup butter (one stick)
- 1 bag of marshmallows (10 oz bag)
- 4-5 cups of Rice Krispies (Depending on how gooey you would like them to be)
- Sprinkles (optional)
- Prepare a greased 8x8 pan
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat (make sure it's over medium heat so it doesn't burn)
- Add marshmallows to pot and stir until melted
- Remove pot from heat and stir in Rice Krispies
- Press Rice Krispies firmly into prepared pan
- Add sprinkles on top
- Let it sit for 10-15 minutes until it cools (you can also put it in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes to speed it up)
- If they are sticking to your spoon or hands while trying to press them into the pan, coat your spoon or hands with butter or a non-stick spray to reduce the sticking.

If I make these the night before, should I refrigerate or leave at room temperature?
My Homemade Heaven
I usually keep them refrigerated, but you can pull them out about 30 minutes to an hour before you want to cut/eat them so that they soften a bit.
Elena
How long the rice krispies stay fresh?
My Homemade Heaven
Hi Elena, these should stay fresh for 1-2 weeks in the fridge, or 3-5 days out of the fridge (in cooler temperatures). If it gets warmer in the house I’d just keep them in the fridge. 🙂
