After trying a variety of different granola bar recipes and finding many of them too hard or bland (for my taste), I finally found one that I love from Back to the Cutting Board! My family loves it too. I use a homemade granola recipe which adds to the flavor and is nice also because I know exactly what is in it. You can find that homemade granola recipe (here). Enjoy!
Homemade Chewy Granola Bar Recipe

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 cups granola
- 2 cups rice cereal (Rice Krispies, etc.)
Instructions
- Line a cookie sheet with tinfoil or parchment paper
- Combine butter, honey, and brown sugar in a large sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until butter is melted.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Add the granola and rice cereal into the sauce pan and fold into the sauce until evenly coated.
- Spread the mixture onto the prepared cookie sheet and press firmly with a spatula to fill evenly.
- Let sit for 15-20 minutes or until cool and set. Cut into bars.
Notes
- You can add a variety of modifications to this recipe to change the flavor. Just mix it in with the granola and rice cereal (note: the chocolate will melt a bit since it will still be warm. So you can mix it in or sprinkle it on top). Below are a few ideas.
- Cinnamon Raisin: 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 cup raisins
- Chocolate Chip: 1 cup chocolate chips
- Chocolate Chip Coconut: 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of coconut
- White Chocolate Chip Craisin: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips and 1/2 cup dried craisins
